Cape Henlopen, Delaware - 15099, Cape Henlopen Dr, Lewes, DE 19958 - Drive all the way to the end of Post Rd and park at the parking lot there. You will have to carry the kayaks to the beach. It is beautiful here. There are wild birds of all types, sharks, dolphins jumping, a great lighthouse and if you're lucky the Kalmar Nyckel will be visiting Lewes. (It is based in Wilmington) It is the most beautiful of the old ships we have seen. Truly magnificent. Watch for the ferry that runs to Cape May. They are very impatient and rude around kayaks. See a map of where we launched and more pics of the area here - Cape Henlopen - 5.
Broadkill River Race, Milton, DE - We had a fantastic time at the race and did pretty well. Search the web if you are interested in entering the race that is usually held in August. The race finishes in Milton during the town festival. There is a launch location in Milton just off Rt 5, Union Ave. downstream of the dam. This is a tidal basin so you can use the tides to your benefit if you study the times. This is a great festival/race and a scenic place for a wildlife tour. The water is usually calm, but prone to changes due to weather. See more pics here - Broadkill River Race. - 3.5
Wilmington, DE - we launched at a private marina for a few bucks. Lock your car tight! (At the end of the road near 1180 E 7th St, Wilmington, DE 19801) The current can be a little strong but otherwise the water is calm. We paddled west on the river toward Fort Christina and the home of the Kalmar Nyckel. See more pics here - Wilmington, DE - 3
Lewes, DE - we launched at the Dogfishhead Kayak launch near 211 Front St, Lewes, DE 19958. The ramp was muddy so we launched from the dock. It was a bit tricky since the canal is swift. There was a 4-6 mph current, so be careful. There were no restroom facilities and parking is limited and there is a small parking fee. See more pics here - Lewes Delaware Canal. - 2.5

Mystic Seaport - This a great place to spend some time in and out of the water. We were there on memorial day and there were several events including a parade across the Mystic River Bascule bridge. Also visit the USS Nautilus just a few miles down the road while your in the area. There is a place to launch at the corner of Isham and Bay St. Check some maps. We parked and launched from a dock at Mystic River Park. There are only a few parking spots and you will have to carry the boat a little and the dock is a little high. The water is usually calm. USS Nautilus - Thames River - Find your way off of 95 near the Submarine WWII Veterans Memorial and then along Fairview St. There is a ramp under the 95 overpass. There were porta-potties when we were there. Paddle north on the Thames River toward the New London submarine Base. You will see the USS Nautilus on your right (east shore). After you finish your kayaking, drive north on Fairview to Military drive and go to the museum and tour the Nautilus. great trip! The water can be really choppy, but when were there it was calm. There are large boats moving through the area. Stay out of the traffic areas, close to shore and watch for wakes. See more pics here - USS Nautilus. - 5
